Implementing The Post-Party Clean Up

Here are our top cleaning tips for how to get your house looking back to its pre-party state.

The summer is the perfect time to host a house or garden party – perhaps you’ve organised a pre-World Cup BBQ or you want to host a garden party for a family member’s birthday party.  Whilst parties take a particular amount of planning and organisation, don’t forget there’s also the post-party clean up to sort out!  Here are our top cleaning tips for how to get your house looking back to its pre-party state.

Once you’ve had a coffee, a large glass of water and perhaps some pain killers, it’s time to set to work collecting glasses and bottles.  Empty the dregs of the drinks into the sink and pop the glasses on the top rack of the dishwasher.  Place the bottles into the recycling bin.  Scrape any plates or bowls into the bin and finish loading the dishwasher.  Get it running so that you can carry on cleaning whilst your dishes are being transformed.

Open the windows to help to eliminate stale odours; the fresh air may help you to feel a little better too!  Next, layer two bin bags one inside the other to prevent tearing.  Carry the bags from room to room to save on time, and collect up all the rubbish as you go.  Once the floors and surfaces have been cleared from any debris, the house will no doubt start to look a little better.

Check the carpet and upholstery for any stains – if you find one, the best thing to do is apply a folded paper towel firmly to the area so as to absorb any excess liquid.  Keep removing, refolding and reapplying the paper towel until the area feels dry.  If the area is still stained, use a household stain remover which is suitable for the type of surface.

Next it’s time to clean the floors.  Work from the top of the house down, and be sure to vacuum the stairs too.  Any hard floors will need to be mopped and left to dry – this gives you the ideal opportunity to have a 10 minute sit down!

Make sure the bathroom is cleaned thoroughly, particularly the toilet and the sink, and change the hand towels for some fresh ones.  The dishwasher should have finished by now, so put all the cutlery, glassware and crockery away where they belong.  That should be pretty much it, now it’s time to relax and look at the photos from the night before!
