Which would you prefer if you showed signs of ageing – Botox© or dermal fillers?
Botox© and dermal fillers are both effective at slowing down the visible signs of ageing - but which option would be best for you?
Our appearance is important to all of us, we enjoy looking our best and getting dressed up for events. Looking good can often give a sense of confidence, and whilst we all have our own inner natural beauty, it can be difficult to fight off the signs of aging.
If you find that you are beginning to get lines under your eyes – also known as ‘crow’s feet,’ or you are developing lines along your forehead, then you may become slightly apprehensive about your appearance. Genetically, the collagen within our skin can deplete sooner on some people than on others - this is because we are all unique and we all have different genes.
Whilst cosmetic procedures cause diverse opinion, it is important to consider the advantages and disadvantages such procedures could have. It is often more common for people to prefer non-permanent treatments, and this is where Botox © and dermal fillers often become the favourable options for those who wish to undergo cosmetic surgery to help reduce the signs of ageing.
As there are many anti-ageing creams, serums, lotions and potions, it is hard to tell which will work most effectively and whether they will work for you. With Botox © and dermal fillers, they have proven to be able to visibly reduce wrinkles within a matter of days, giving you a younger but fuller appearance.
So what is Botox ©?
Botox © works by injecting certain areas which are most prone to wrinkle, such as the forehead and the soft tissue underneath the eyes. Botox© releases a substance called acetylcholine. This works to reduce the muscle activity which can cause wrinkles to form. It works particularly well on crow’s feet, and lines along the forehead.
Botox© is a non-permanent procedure but the effects can last for up to 4-8 months, which is great as you won’t have to worry about regularly going in to have the procedure carried out. Your skin will naturally break down the substance, but you can choose whether you want to continue with the treatment.
Botox © is a sensitive technique, and will work differently on various people. Ensure that you have your procedure done by a licensed, well trained professional so that your treatment is carried out in the correct way. If you wished to have crow’s feet eliminated from around your eyes you would have 3 injections outside the eye area. If you wanted lines removed from your forehead you would have a series of 5 injections inserted with a fine needle in different places of your forehead.
So what is the difference, and how do dermal fillers work?
Dermal fillers are similar to Botox© procedures, in the sense that they help to reduce wrinkles. A range of factors can affect the appearance of the skin and can cause the ageing process to develop rapidly, such as smoking, emotional distress, diseases, dramatic changes in weight and rapid changes in temperature. It’s worth remembering that ageing is something that we simply cannot have a permanent fix for, or avoid.
Dermal fillers are usually issued under a local anaesthetic, where it is applied under a sterile environment. There are various types of dermal fillers which you can choose from including: hyaluronic acid fillers and calcium hydroxyapatite fillers. Both are reabsorbed by your skin after around 5-6 months. Like Botox© these will eventually break down naturally by your skin, and you can choose whether you want to have them again or not.
Dermal fillers are great in being able to offer a youthful appearance and are similar to Botox© in this sense.
However Botox© is more favourable due to it being able to target specific areas of the face, and lasts a little longer than dermal fillers do. Many prefer the idea of a thin like needle with liquid rather than having an actual filler inserted within their face.
Botox© and dermal fillers can help to reduce the look of wrinkles under your skin, and can help to give you a youthful, and healthy looking appearance, so that you can go out freely without having to worry about any flaws which you feel you may have.
