True or False?
Most everyone has experienced taking tests based upon questions that can be answered true or false. Of course I preferred these types of questions rather than multiple choice, as I had a 50% chance of getting it right in the event I failed to study. The premise of these true and false tests is simple; one answer is true the other is false.
Most everyone has experienced taking tests based upon questions that can be answered true or false. Of course I preferred these types of questions rather than multiple choice, as I had a 50% chance of getting it right in the event I failed to study. The premise of these true and false tests is simple; one answer is true the other is false. While the premise of the test may be simple, the importance of true and false directly impacts the stability of any nation and all of its residents. Without truth it is impossible for a nation to establish and regulate laws and support a stable cultural, economic and business environment.
For example, if you own a home you are absolutely dependent upon the truth. Without the truth you would have no idea who owns the land on which your home resides. In America we reference the deed if a question arises as to who owns the land. The deed is a legal, public document that establishes the rightful owner of the property. Without the truth there is no deed. Why would you build a home on land without a deed of ownership, and why would a bank lend money on such questionable collateral?
The truth is of paramount importance, without it the world around us would crumble. Every day we rely upon the truth, whether acknowledging it or not. For example if you have a job you receive a regular scheduled paycheck from your employer. You rely upon the fact that your employer is truthful and pays you based upon your compensation agreement. Without your paycheck you cannot pay bills, rent, mortgage, etc. Again, we see that the truth is foundational and should never be marginalized.
Interestingly enough during the course of conversations, I have noticed an increasing trend of statements like: “there are multiple versions of the truth”. To clarify, in most of these instances the references were made about God and the various religions of the world. The statement generally goes something like the following: “what is your truth, is not true for someone else.” My response to this belief is one word “really?” Is the belief of multiple truths rooted in sound, logical and wise thinking? I think not.
More often than not the people who believe the theory of multiple truths cannot have a 5 minute conversation without contradicting themselves. Stated more frankly, the theory does not hold water. If the theory of multiple truths exist, where is the evidence? What are the situations that had multiple truths? Surely, such evidence would be observable by all.
Believing in multiple truths defies logic and requires extraordinary faith. This is an example of how these conversations generally go:
“Wouldn’t you agree that the human body requires oxygen to support life?”
“Not necessarily, that maybe your truth, but it is not mine”
“So, you are stating that if all the oxygen left this room you could continue to breathe without issue and I would die.”
“Well, I am not sure, I just know that everyone has their own truth and that is what they should live by.”
Of course this conversation would continue down this illogical path until the multiple truth theorist recognizes the futility in this type of thinking; however in some cases they never do.
You are probably asking by now where I am going with this conversation. Here it is:
Multiple versions of the truth cannot exist, as it contradicts the very nature of the world in which we live. You, me and every human being on this earth depends upon the truth to sustain and support life.
This leads us to the next question and my next blog topic. Now that we have established the supremacy of truth and our utter dependence upon it, does the theory of multiple truths somehow transcend to God?
